Action Center - Crack Open an Action Egg!

What can you do to support the backyard chicken movement in Waunakee?

Just crack open an action egg and hatch an idea!  Some a.b.c. ideas (already been cracked) are listed below to help get you started.

Ideas for kids who love animals, want pets but have cat/dog allergies, enjoy tasty eggs, or just think chickens are epic little creatures:
  • Talk to your parents about your interest in backyard chickens and try to convince them to contact the village and to participate in other chicken-related activities.

  • Do some research to learn more about chickens and chicken keeping.

  • With mom's or dad's permission, sidewalk chalk your support for chickens in your driveway.

  • Draw a picture or a cartoon, create a cool chicken coop out of Legos, or make any other kind of chicken-related art.

What about adults and families?
  • Click here to sign our online petition. It's easy!
    • Contact our current village board members and administrators.  Click on this email distribution list to send a quick email to them.  It doesn't have to be anything too long--just let them know that you support the Waunakee Chicken Charter (with a link to www.waunakeechickens.net) and that you would like them to amend the village ordinances.

    • Speak during one of the public comment periods that occur at the start of village board meetings. Regular meetings are normally held at 6:00 pm on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month at the Village Hall. However, check the village calendar and meeting agendas to be sure.

    • Take to your social media accounts in support of the backyard chicken movement in Waunakee. (#chickenslovetweets, #waunakeechickens)

    • Vote for local leaders who will support the regulated legalization of the humble and harmless backyard chicken. (It's democracy in action--can you see how that might work?!)

    • Spread the word to others about the movement and www.waunakeechickens.net.

It's going to take a village to change things for backyard chickens in Waunakee.  Every effort, big or small, will help!

If you hatch an awesome idea, please feel free to share it with us, and we'll consider adding it here.  For example, someone thought it would be a good idea to make a t-shirt that advertises this website--so we did!  You just might see it around town!
